“Via Claudia Augusta”
Cycle along old Roman routes and enjoy ancient cuisine
2000 years ago the Roman emperor Claudius had this route from the Adriatic Sea to Augsburg built mainly to supply his troops. In the middle of the 1990’s this Roman road has been revived for people to hike and bike and it’s being used by thousands these days. They use it in a peaceful manner and take the time to relive the Roman culture in Museums, Information Centers and two historical milestones of Roman history. Simultaneous with the revival of the road ancient culinary art came to appearance using fruits and foods of that time. More than 30 cooks between Füssen and Nauders whip up dishes using Roman condiments to take you out on a historical journey. How would you like beef loin Roman style with golden wheat or a filet of wild hare with a barley-mushroom risotto?
- Mostly paved cycling paths and countryside roads as well as less traveled back roads and village alley ways;
- use of the Via Claudia Augusta shuttle transfer to conveniently manage the two challenging mountain passes;
- also for children from the age of 12 (high amount of cycling enthusiasm required).
Bookable as individual single tour, 5 days / 4 nights, approximately 160 kilometers. Dates for guided group tours on request.
